Forget me so Quickly (finished)

The finished pieces all together! Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to photograph them properly, so the quality of the colour is really low and some of the images have been distorted.

This was how the piece was displayed on the night of our artshow. Crazy time putting it up, took about an hour, I kept getting distracted and it kept not looking right ahah. But it did looked a lot better in person...the space was way too small to get a full photo of it all put together.

Forget me so Quickly (process)

Forget me so Quickly was the last art project I did before graduating from Cawthra Park Secondary School. For it, I got in touch with 8 people that I had been close to before and asked to paint them for this piece. The imagery was supposed to represent the degradation of memory or something ahha but ended up just being a huge portrait painting exercise.

This was the process I went through for each of the oil paintings.

Stage 1
Second layer of paint after initial underlayer (of mostly paint thinner and small amount of paint) done on a acrylic base. Mapping out colours under the surface, also shadows and highlights.

Stage 2
Blocking out major areas of colour, creating more contrast of the surface.

Stage 3
Smoothing out areas and blending more colours. Adding details and highlights.

Stage 4
Finishing the background, rendering the details (excuse the bad lighting/camera quality on this one)

Mock CD Designs

Another Project for grade 12 Desktop Design, where we could design anything we wanted. My friend who's a local DJ let me create mock a CD cover and line notes for him. Done with Adobe Photoshop.

This was probably my first successful original piece, which was done in first semester grade 11. The assignment was to make something under the theme of "liquid".

Welcome!

My name is Shirley Liang and I'm pursuing a career in the Visual Arts and am currently about to start my first year at Sheridan College (where I'll be majoring in Illustration). I'll be displaying some of the artwork that I've made in the past and some pieces I'm working on currently here.

Painting and Drawing Studies

These were studies I did from around 2008 while learning at Ma's Hippo Studio. I primarily worked with coloured pencil and pastel, then after a few years, finally worked my way up to oils. I used to dread going to drawing class every saturday ahha, but I really did learn a lot there and this was really the point when my art went from cartoon doodles to structured pieces. All of these were done from references of paintings or pictures from magazines.

(That was the first coloured portrait my teacher let me do and I was so proud of it I went around showing everyone...then I dropped my sketchbook in a puddle...that's why the paper is all wrinkly. I learned my lesson that day)
